Your Merlin@home™ transmitter can now perform many of these from home, without having to visit your doctor’s office. The transmitter simply reads your device data and transmits it securely over the phone for your doctor to review. Remote monitoring is when the transmitter checks your device between scheduled follow-ups and transmits data.   • Do not spill any liquid on the transmitter. If you spill any liquid, unplug the transmitter and wipe the liquid off right away. Do not plug the transmitter in until it is completely dry.
  • The Merlin@home transmitter complies with the limits for medical devices contained in IEC/EN 60601-1-2:2014. However, the Merlin@home transmitter may cause radio interference or may disrupt the operation of nearby equipment. It may be necessary to mitigate this effect by reorienting or relocating the receiving device or shielding the location.

August 29, 2017 cybersecurity Pacemaker firmware update

Abbott released an update to its implantable pacemakers as part of its ongoing commitment to continuously improve patient care. This planned update to pacemaker firmware (a kind of software) adds additional security protections designed to reduce the risk of unauthorized access to patients' pacemakers. The update contains a software release that includes data encryption, operating system patches, and disabling network connectivity features in addition to the firmware update.

January 9, 2017 cybersecurity update

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, on January 9, 2017, St. Jude Medical announced that it is now deploying the latest release of cybersecurity updates for its Merlin remote monitoring system that is used with implantable pacemakers and defibrillator devices. We collaborated with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s ICS-CERT unit on these updates. The improvements include security updates that complement the company’s existing security measures and further reduce the extremely low cybersecurity risks.
